Fresh from the Garden: Chef Alexa and Max's demo at the Library

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Bartholomew County Public Library for Chef Alexa and Max's demo with recipes for using the bounty of summer.

I am so glad I got to attend the demonstration. Everything was absolutely exquisite from the weather to the presentation, but especially the food and drink. Incredible flavor from such fresh and simple ingredients. And you made it all look so easy. Bravo for a job well done. Can't wait to receive the recipes while eagerly anticipating the next time.

Fresh from the Garden Recipes

Alexa Lemley, Executive Chef 240sweet Artisan Foodworks

Cold Steeped Shrub

I love all things tart and tangy. At first sip, a drinking vinegar makes one pucker. Then, the sweetness comes through. I like to add ginger ale and vodka for a refreshing cocktail.

1 cup very ripe fruit (fresh berries are a great choice)
1 cup sugar
1 cup cider vinegar

Dice the fruit and coat with sugar. Let sit for 24-36 hours or until juicy. Strain fruit for juice. Mix the juice with cider vinegar. Let age in non-reactive container for one week. Use to create delicious drinks (1 tablespoon per cup of mixer).

Makes 10 drinks.


Watermelon Feta Salad

This refreshing and delicious side salad complements a wide a variety of summer menus. Sam and I often enjoy this dish with some spicy grilled shrimp and a white wine.

1 small watermelon, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
1 red onion cut into thin slices
1 tbs fresh mint chiffonade
¼ cup crumbled feta
4 big pieces of leaf lettuce (enough to cover a salad plate)
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
½ cup olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Mint sprigs for garnish

Gently mix together melon, onion, feta, and mint. DO NOT OVERMIX. In a separate bowl, whisk oil slowly into the vinegar, add salt and pepper. Place a piece of lettuce onto small plates, place other salad ingredients, and pour dressing atop. Garnish with more mint.


Serves 4. 


Zoe's birthday party

Recently, we were honored with catering Zoe's 21st birthday party. Her friends and family enjoyed a fun tropical menu, including the Fabulous Fruit Palm.

Hi, Sam,
     Zoe's party was a great success! I received many compliments on the food and having staff really let me relax and mingle with our family and friends. Zoe said it was the best birthday ever! A few guests also said it was the best birthday party that they had ever been to as well. Many, many thanks to you and Alexa and to your staff for making it so.
